Today was a big day, but awesome. There are a series of small canyons or washes ( they can flood heavily after rain hence that name ) just outside of Green River which we rode through. Sam tends not to say much on his maps apart from route directions but in the entire Trans America Trail this is the only part where he specifically says you should avoid going on big bikes. His words "if you are on a big, heavy bike you should bypass this. This will avoid very deep sand, big rocks and a nasty uphill climb".
Well, you kind of have to go take look after that. I must say we are both very pleased we did have a look. We were rewarded with some of the best riding we have done on the TAT although it was certainly challenging.
Deep sand was no lie. There really was no choice but to learn very quickly how to ride sand. Serious concentration required. The nasty uphill mentioned was awesome but only because we got up it. Not really 990 terrain with loose dirt interspersed with near vertical rock steps. By then we were committed as going back wasn't an option which gives you a bit of fire in the belly. Both if us were pleased as punch with ourselves for having given it a go.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't exhausted now.
Just a few pictures taken in the canyons as we were pretty focused on riding. The pic of the bridge is Interstate 70 which could have been a million miles away as there is no way you can get to it.
Other picture is our version of Subway lunch, energy bars in a culvert underneath I70 later on.
Tomorrow is our last day in Utah.
Things may go a bit quiet on the blog front for a few days as I don't think there is much wifi in the pretty basic accomodation we expect on Nevada.
Till next time.
