I'm not a religious person. Religion has too much to answer for. Spirituality however is a different thing. Sometimes, when we slow down enough, we allow ourselves to be touched by the world around us. Tonight, for me was a truly spiritual experience. Dave and I had the privilege of riding through Arches National Park at sundown. It took us 40 minutes just to cover the first 2 miles.
The sights of afternoon light bathing these incredible red/orange/brown/ beige rock formations that look almost like museum exhibits they are so surreal. The stillness and slowly changing light in the long desert twilight was very special and, at least for me, went beyond just looking. We rode home on the dark with these amazing rock formations sillouetted against the last vestiges of light.
We were not the only ones there. So often, with nature, we want to keep things for ourselves. The more remote the better, but somehow tonight I didn't resent the other worshippers. It was clear we were all experiencing the same thing. Tones were hushed at view points and everyone seemed to treat it with great reverence. Then I had another toke of my joint.. Peyote methinks in these parts.
Ok, I jest and will stop harping on.
However if you look at the picture of delicate arch you will notice the crowd of worshippers on the left. As usual the camera doesn't do it justice and I will have to send panorama pics separately as the wifi here is very wispy.
Stop smiling Tom.
