Well I guess for those that have been watching our activities on the Spot tracker I have a bit of explaining to do.
Some have asked what happened to Bernie but the truth is it is all linked.
You might be aware that Nevada has more relaxed laws on prostitution and drugs than most other states on the US. This is clearly because there is nothing else to do in Nevada.
Well, Bernie was doing just fine. A great companion although he tended to be a bit quiet at times and then suddenly in Nevada he came over all lascivious. I can only put it down to the miles and miles of sage brush affecting his usual quiet composure.
The end result is that we had to do a bit of a runner before he got himself or us into trouble and so we did a 450mile escape from Nevada.
Last night we were in Lakeview, Oregon and today, after a most enjoyable TAT route we have ended up in the tiny hamlet of Crescent.
Dave and I are enjoying being back I the trees. I thought the riding in Oregon would be potentially monotonous but today was a good mix of forestry roads, dirt tracks, sand( much like Grabouw for the South African connection), even some single track and a long section along a disused railway line which was pretty cool. It was built of scoria and varied between cuttings and elevated sections through the forest. We also did quite a technical section of pylon track. So, overall I was feeling pretty chirpy although Dave seemed a bit subdued. Turns out he was missioning in my dust as I did all the navigation today ( which is also fun). Ah well, can't win them all. On top of that we had our first puncture when Dave had a very unlucky pinch flat on the disused railway. We think one of the big metal plates they would have used to pin the tracks down got kicked up by his front wheel and caught the rear at quite slow speed. It could have been worse. We had shade and a cool breeze and the end result was that our lunch turned into afternoon tea.
Tomorrow we are off the trail again to see Crater Lake about an hour south of here. We have heard there is a KTM rally in Bend, Oregon this coming weekend so maybe we will end up there. Who knows?
One other thing. Suddenly temperature has dropped from 80-90 (30-35 ish) to frost here in Oregon. Nice day time temp but spring has arrived.
So a selection of pics from today and a couple of Bernie. These were the only ones I felt I could publish. You have to admit he has an awesome body although who knows what's going on on that head!
