Day 5 Big Sur

Funny, this morning I was woken up at 7 by a phone call to tell me the box(which is beginning to assume an air of mystery a bit like the "luggage" from the Terry Pratchett novels for those who like high literature) was not going to arrive today. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day, maybe never. Who knows.
So it turned into another lovely day. Before I came here I had hoped to connect with people. Much as I love bikes , people are mostly more interesting. So tonight we got to to spend more time with Tom. He's reading this so I won't go overboard but it is nice to to connect with people and Dave and I now count him as a true friend. I hope we might ride together in the desert one day, it is possible. For those that know I refer to Death Valley. It seems like an amazing place.
Well we did our first oil change after about 400(650km) miles on the bikes over the last few days. Very pleasant evening in shop chatting, looking at maps and just enjoying some companionship. That kind of thing is highly underrated in our modern do,do,do world. Toms mate Gary brought a beautiful dog along, I think his name is Nikita but he is awesome enough to deserve a mention. Pity none of my pics has a scale as he is huge.
So we rode US highway 1 today. It's one of the iconic motorcycling roads stretching south from Monterray to who knows, maybe LA. For the South Africans just think 100km of Camps Bay to Llandudno. Nice but a bit of cold mist and a touch more traffic than I would like. Still an awesome ride though. We got to hammer along the freeway with thousands of other cars which I guess is also part of the all American experience. Yes we also did the traffic jam.
Best but was just a short hop up into the mountains behind the Bug Sur coast. Gravel at last and immediately the rewards that off roading brings. Great views down over the sea and we saw some deer on the road. You need to look carefully at the pics as my phone does not appear to have zoom. They were only about 20 metres away.
Cool.
The bike is great on the dirt. Dave didn't mean to but reminded me how good he is and how much I still have to learn. He looks like he is riding the Dakar. I look like I am not doing much. An old lady with a shopping trolley overtook me.
At least I know which side of the road to ride on...
Look at the pics
