Jennie is a wise lady and she often says to me that everything happens for a reason. I guess you can interpret that as you like but for me it means that when things don't go as you plan it is to allow you to have a different, perhaps even better, experience.
Today has been a bit like that.
Our box of bits never arrived. That includes some pretty vital GPS gear, fenders as well as Daves riding gear.
To put it nicely that well and truly screwed us. Currently the box is lost and so our trip starts to change-you see, everything happens for a reason.
We will be doing more riding here in California with Tom, the mechanic from the shop,a person I have already taken quite a liking to. This will be a good thing. We may have to rethink our start point on the Trans America Trail, depending how much time we lose through this. So what.
Am I unhappy? Not at all. I have a brand new bike and it is more awesome in real life than I expected( and I haven't even ridden it yet). Daves bike is also a thing of beauty. The people here have been a joy to be with and perhaps the best bit was seeing Dave on a borrowed bicycle(cant ride the proper boke witj no boots or helmet). Only after 10 minutes did I have the heart to tell him it doesn't take fuel.
All in all, not the day we planned but quite enjoyable anyway. Tomorrow we are going to christen the bikes so lots to look forward to.
To all of you that know Dave. He had to work without a torque wrench, his own tool and no overalls. You know what that means.... Angry bear! I'm off to have a glass of wine.
