Day 7 the box arrives

Well I think I freaked out the UPS man today. I happened to be at the bike shop waiting for the bloody thing when the van arrives. I figured by now all of you reading this blog would be so over hearing about THE BOX but let me get a picture of the moment it arrives. The poor fellow couldn't understand why I was muscling him out the way and then started taking photos. I told him to relax, I'm not like that.
THE BOX will not be mentioned again, it's work here is done.
Well funny how you can go from cruise mode to full on in such a short space of time. I ran back to our lodgings with tears in my eyes to tell Dave of the thing we do not speak of arriving. Would you believe it but he just looks at me and says that's nice and carries on tapping away on the computer like nothing's happened. Eventually he sees fit to stroll over to the shop and see what all the fuss is about. I have to say that once he was in his overalls in amongst his tools there were some happy whistling sounds coming out.
The rest if the day was spent frantically dismantling and rebuilding bikes. Nobody who knows Dave will be surprised at how awesomely they have turned out but I really would like to acknowledge all his hard work. Mate you have done well. Thanks.
( Actually I did tell him but sometimes you should write things down as well).
Anyway, look at the pics from today. The front fender is now raised so that it can't clog with mud. It has some great decals with New Zealand, a kiwi and the southern cross on it on a nice background of the silver fern. Also New Zealand for the swing arm. We want people to know where we are from. We are proud of that.
Gps units are also mounted on special brackets and wired into the electronics so that it is linked to the ignition - very tidy.
Crash bars are on bikes. See the pics. I tried to include some detail for those that are interested. We are ready to go.
Finally I know many have waited with baited breath how the celebratory Mexican went. Now Linda will be proud of her man as he attacked the supreme burrito with gusto and apparent relish. I thought awesome as I like spicy food and trip cuisine was looking up.
However I have to report that the jury remains out. If you look at the last picture I'm attaching ( isn't he a sport) you can see in his eyes that all is not good. Have we woken the Mexican devil inside? I don't know but he dived into the loo when we got home...
Tomorrow Yosemite.

  1. Great news! I can just imagine the poor UPS man being pushed aside while you rip the door open. You will start the trip in a great frame of mind (well of course its already started). ONWARDS!!

I hope Dave didn't suffer any lasting effects of the Mexican food?
